Mackenzie Soldan made wheelchair tennis history in 2018, as she became the first wheelchair athlete to train full-time at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Her work with USTA Player Development is the latest impressive entry on a resume that also includes a Paralympic appearance, two Parapan American gold medals and a collegiate national title during her time at the University of Alabama.

Entering her seventh World Team Cup, with her previous appearances spanning the U.S. women’s and junior teams, Soldan has had great success representing her country throughout the world. She reached a career-high ITF ranking of No. 18 in 2010, and won a pair of gold medals at the 2011 Parapan American Games—one each in women’s singles and doubles (with Mary Kaiser). One year later, she followed that up with her first Paralympics appearance, in London in 2012.

In addition to her Tier I singles national collegiate title, won in 2012 with the Crimson Tide, Soldan graduated from Alabama in 2016 after earning master’s and bachelor’s degrees.

A multisport athlete, Soldan was a member of Team USA’s gold medal-winning women’s wheelchair basketball squad at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
