After suffering a spinal cord injury in a car accident in 1995, Bryan Barten took up the sport of wheelchair tennis and played in his first wheelchair tennis tournament in 1998. He has since competed in two Paralympic Games (2012 London and 2016 Rio) and 12 World Team Cup competitions, winning five World Team Cup quad titles for the U.S.

Barten reached a career-high quad singles ranking of No. 5 in June 2006 and peaked at No. 4 in quad doubles in April 2017. He is currently ranked No. 4 in doubles and No. 9 in singles in the ITF quad wheelchair rankings.

Barten earned his bachelor's and master’s degrees from the University of Arizona, where he currently coaches wheelchair tennis.
