The monthly USTA Player Development Player and Coach Honor Roll recognizes the top performing young Americans and their coaches each month.
Here’s a look at some of the most outstanding performances turned in by American tennis players ages 20 and younger in May:
Adam Ambrozy (Sept. 5, 1997), St. Petersburg, Fla. – Reached the semifinals of the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. He is coached by Scott Dei and Kevin Quay.
Nicole Anderson (June 23, 1998), Camarillo, Calif. – Advanced to the singles semifinals at the Grade 4 Estonian Junior Open ITF junior event in Tallinn, Estonia.
Hurricane Tyra Black (March 2, 2001), Boca Raton, Fla. – Won the singles title at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event in Delray Beach, Fla. She is coached by Sly and Gayal Black.
William Blumberg (Jan. 26, 1998), Greenwich, Conn. – Advanced to the quarterfinals of the Grade A Trofeo Bonfiglio ITF junior event in Milan, Italy.
Carson Branstine (Sept. 9, 2000), Orange, Calif. – Reached the singles and doubles finals at the Grade 4 ITF junior event in Plantation, Fla. She is coached by Kathy Rinaldi.
Caleb Chakravarthi (Jan. 2, 1999), Irvine, Calif. – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. He is coached by Phil Dent.
Louisa Chirico (May 16, 1996), Harrison, N.Y. – Won the Har-Tru Wild Card Challenge to earn a main-draw wild card into the French Open through her results on the USTA Pro Circuit; she won the $50,000 event in Dothan, Ala., and reached the final of the $50,000 tournament in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla. She is coached by Jay Gooding.
Zeke Clark (July 19, 1998), Tulsa, Okla. – Reached the semifinals of the Grade 4 ETC Cup ITF junior event in Budapest, Hungary. He is coached by Trent Tucker.
Chase Colton (June 2, 1997), Pompano Beach, Fla. – Won the singles title at the Grade 4 ITF junior event in Plantation, Fla.
Oliver Crawford (April 30, 1999), Spartanburg, S.C. – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla.; reached the singles final at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event the next week and advanced to the singles and double semifinals at the Grade 4 Plantation ITF junior event the week after that. He is coached by Anthony Stewart and Kelly Jones.
Samantha Crawford (Feb. 18, 1995), Atlanta – Reached the singles final at the USTA Pro Circuit $25,000 women’s event in Raleigh, N.C. She is coached by Michael Joyce.
Jaeda Daniel (July 28, 1999), Wesley Chapel, Fla. – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. She is coached by Pascal Collard.
Emma Decoste (Feb. 12, 2000), Stuart, Fla. – Reached the singles semifinals at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. She is coached by her father, Scott.
Francesca DiLorenzo (July 22, 1997), New Albany, Ohio – Won the doubles title and reached the singles quarterfinals at the Grade 1 Astrid Bowl ITF junior event in Charleroi, Belgium. She is coached by Ann Grossman.
Nada Dimovska (March 8, 2000), Butler, N.J. – Reached the singles final at the Grade 4 Montenegro Open ITF junior event in Ulcinj, Montenegro. She is coached by her father.
Victoria Emma (Aug. 7, 1999), Naples, Fla. – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 ITF junior event in Plantation, Fla. She is coached by Andoni Vivanco.
Ernesto Escobedo (July 4, 1996), West Covina, Calif. – Advanced to the singles final at the $15,000 Futures in Cordoba, Mexico. He is coached by his father, Ernesto.
Taylor Fritz (Oct. 28, 1997), Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. – Made the semifinals of the Grade A Trofeo Bonfiglio ITF junior event in Milan, Italy, and reached the semifinals of the $10,000 Futures in Valldoreix, Spain. He is coached by his father, Guy.
William Grant (Feb. 13, 2001), Santa Barbara, Calif. – Reached the semifinals of the Grade 5 Euphemia Tihapane Memor ITF junior event in Gaborone, Botswana. He is coached by Thomas Brinkhoff and Juan Viloca.
Taylor Johnson (Aug. 7, 2000), Redondo Beach, Calif. – Reached the singles final at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event, then advanced to the singles semifinals and doubles final at the Grade 4 Plantation ITF junior event. She is coached by Rosie Casals and Rick Buchta.
Madison Keys (Feb. 17, 1995), Boca Raton, Fla. – Keys (pictured above) advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Strasbourg, France, then reached the third round of the French Open in Paris. She is coached by Lindsay Davenport.
Allie Kiick (June 30, 1995), Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Won the $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Charlottesville, Va., and reached the semifinals at the $50,000 tournament in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla. She is coached by Harold Solomon.
Stefan Kozlov (Feb. 1, 1998), Pembroke Pines, Fla. – Reached singles finals at consecutive Futures tournaments – the $10,000 event in Orange Park, Fla., and the $15,000 tournament in Mexico City – then advanced to the semifinals of the $15,000 Futures in Cordoba, Mexico. He is coached by his father, Andrei.
Patrick Kypson (Oct. 28, 1999), Greenville, N.C. – Won the singles title at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event, then reached the singles final and won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Plantation ITF junior event. He is coached by Mat Cloer.
Hannah Lairmore (Sept. 1, 1999), Mobile, Ala. – Qualified and reached the singles semifinals at the Grade 4 ITF junior event in Plantation, Fla. She is coached by Rick Macci.
Catalin Mateas (May 21, 1997), Braintree, Mass. – Won the doubles title at the Grade 2 Medias-sen-Sibiu ITF junior tournament in Medias, Romania. He is coached by his father, Calin.
Maria Mateas (July 21, 1999), Braintree, Mass. – Reached the singles final at the Grade 2 Medias-sen-Sibiu ITF junior tournament in Medias, Romania. She is coached by her father, Calin.
Caty McNally (Nov. 20, 2001), Cincinnati, Ohio – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event in Delray Beach, Fla. She is coached by her mother, Lynn.
John McNally (Oct. 18 1998), Cincinnati, Ohio – Reached the singles semifinals at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event, then won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Plantation ITF junior event. He is coached by his mother, Lynn.
Madeline Meredith (March 7, 1999), Birmingham, Ala. – Advanced to the singles and doubles finals at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. She is coached by Todd Widom.
Nicole Mossmer (Aug. 5, 2000), La Jolla, Calif. – Reached the singles semifinals at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. She is coached by Patricia Tarabini.
Stephanie Nemtsova (April 15, 1998), Dennis Port, Mass. – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. She is coached by her father, Oleg.
Whitney Osuigwe (April 17, 2002), Bradenton, Fla. – Won the singles title at the Grade 4 ITF junior event in Plantation, Fla. She is coached by her father, Desmond.
Tommy Paul (May 17, 1997), Lumberton, N.J. – Won two ITF Futures titles –the $10,000 Futures in Valldoreis, Spain, and the $10,000 Futures in Lecco, Italy – and reached an additional semifinal at the $10,000 Futures in Vic, Spain. He is coached by Diego Moyano.
Kariann Pierre-Louis (Jan. 16, 1999), Miami, Fla. – Reached the singles semifinals at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event in Delray Beach, Fla. She is coached by Bill Adams.
Nathan Ponwith (April 20, 1998), Scottsdale, Ariz. – Advanced to the quarterfinals of the Grade A Trofeo Bonfiglio ITF junior event in Milan, Italy, and the Grade 1 Astrid Bowl in Charleroi, Belgium. He is coached by Lou Belken.
Alexandre Rotsaert (Oct. 14, 1999), Boca Raton, Fla. – Won the singles title at the Grade 4 Metropolia Open ITF junior event in Coral Cables, Fla. He is coached by Hafeez Hameed.
Alex Rybakov (Jan. 27, 1997), Coral Springs, Fla. – Qualified and reached the semifinals of the $10,000 Futures in Vic, Spain. He is coached by his father, Nick.
Sangeet Sridhar (Mar. 20, 2000), Glendale, Ariz. – Won the singles title and reached the doubles final at the Grade 4 SEB Outdoor Open ITF junior event in Varnamo, Sweden. He is coached by Rafael Font de Mora.
Katerina Stewart (July 17, 1997), Miami, Fla. – Won the $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., and reached finals at the $50,000 tournaments in Charlottesville, Va., and Dothan, Ala. She is coached by her father, Cesar.
Natasha Subhash (Sept. 2, 2001), Fairfax, Va. – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event in Delray Beach, Fla. She is coached by Bear Schofield.
Danny Thomas (Feb. 22, 1996), Pickerington, Ohio – Won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Delray Beach ITF junior event in Delray Beach, Fla. He is coached by Maurice Trail.
