The monthly USTA Player Development Player and Coach Honor Roll recognizes the top performing young Americans and their coaches each month.
Here’s a look at some of the most outstanding performances turned in by American tennis players ages 20 and younger in January:
Amanda Anisimova (Aug. 31, 2001), Hallandale Beach, Fla. – Won the girls’ singles title at the Grade 1 Coffee Bowl junior tournament in Costa Rica. She is coached by her father, Konstantin.
Hurricane Tyra Black (March 2, 2001), Boca Raton, Fla. – Reached the girls’ singles final at the Grade 1 Coffee Bowl junior tournament in Costa Rica. She is coached by Lawrence Carpio.
Ulises Blanch (March 25, 1998), Pompano Beach, Fla. – Won the boys’ singles title at the Grade 1 AGL Loy Yang Traralgon Junior International event in Australia; also won the doubles title and reached the singles final at the Grade 1 Coffee Bowl junior tournament in Costa Rica. He is coached by Daniel Garcia, Rodrigo Alvarez and Claudio Menna.
Taylor Bridges (Dec. 3, 1998), Mesa, Ariz. – Reached the girls’ singles final at the Grade 4 Wilson Tennis Canterbury junior event and won the doubles title at the Grade 4 Tecnifibre Tennis Central Championships junior tournament, both in New Zealand. She is coached by Adam Altschuler.
Naomi Cheong (May 16, 2002), Las Vegas, Nv. – Won the girls’ singles title at the Grade 4 Wilson Tennis Canterbury junior event and reached the singles final at the Grade 4 Tecnifibre Tennis Central Championships junior tournament, both in New Zealand. She is coached by Henner Nehles.
Zeke Clark (July 19, 1998), Tulsa, Okla. – Reached the boys’ singles semifinals at the Grade 1 Coffee Bowl junior tournament in Costa Rica. He is coached by Trent Tucker and his father, Toby.
Samantha Crawford (Feb. 18, 1995), Atlanta, Ga. – Reached the singles semifinals at the WTA tournament in Brisbane, Australia. She is coached by Michael Joyce.
Ellie Douglas (May 23, 2000), McKinney, Texas – Reached the girls’ singles semifinals at the Grade 1 Coffee Bowl junior tournament in Costa Rica. She is coached by Luis Herrera.
Taylor Fritz (Oct. 28, 1997), Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. – Won the singles title at the $75,000 ATP Challenger tournament in Happy Valley, Australia, then qualified for the Australian Open and pushed Jack Sock to five sets in the first round. He is coached by his father, Guy.
Ellie Halbauer (July 18, 1997) – Reached the singles semifinals of the $25,000 women’s event in Sunrise, Fla. She is coached by Chip Brooks.
Taylor Johnson (Aug. 7, 2000), Redondo Beach, Calif. – Won the girls’ singles title at the Grade 1 Copa Barranquilla junior event in Colombia. She is coached by Marc Lucero.
Sofia Kenin (Nov. 14, 1998), Pembroke Pines, Fla. – Won the singles title at the $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit women’s event in Wesley Chapel, Fla. She is coached by her father, Alex.
Faris Khan (Feb. 11, 2002), New Braunfels, Texas – Reached the boys’ singles semifinals at the prestigious 14-and-under Nike Junior International Teen Tennis tournament in Bolton, England. He is coached by Shariq Khan.
Raveena Kingsley (July 23, 1998), Fulton, Md. – Reached the singles final at the $50,000 women’s event in Maui, Hawaii. She is coached by Phil and Taylor Dent.
Stefan Kozlov (Feb. 1, 1998), Pembroke Pines, Fla. – Won the men’s singles title at the $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Los Angeles. He is coached by his father, Andrei.
Stefan Leustian (Jan. 18, 2002), Mather, Calif. – Won the boys’ singles title at the prestigious Les Petits As 14-and-under tournament in Tarbes, France. He is coached by Vitaly Gorin.
Michael Mmoh (Jan. 10, 1998), Bradenton, Fla. – Reached the men’s singles final at the $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit tournament in Long Beach, Calif. He is coached by Glenn Weiner.
Alexandra Morozova (Feb. 24, 1995), Sunny Isles, Fla. – Reached the singles semifinals at a $10,000 women’s pro circuit event in Guadeloupe. She currently trains at ProWorld Tennis Academy.
Ingrid Neel (June 16, 1998), Rochester, Minn. – Won the doubles title at the $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit women’s event in Wesley Chapel, Fla. She is coached by Margie Zesinger.
Alexa Noel (Sept. 6, 2002), Summit, N.J. – Swept the girls’ singles and doubles titles at the prestigious 14-and-under Nike Junior International Teen Tennis tournament in Bolton, England. She is coached by Frank Salazar.
Vanessa Ong (Jan. 13, 2002), Oklahoma City, Okla. – Won the girls’ doubles title and reached the singles semifinals at the prestigious 14-and-under Teen Tennis tournament in Bolton, England. She is coached by Jenny Marcos.
Tommy Paul (May 17, 1997), Greenville, N.C. – Won consecutive USTA Pro Circuit $10,000 men’s Futures titles, in Sunrise, Fla., and Plantation, Fla. He is coached by Diego Moyano.
Alexandre Rotsaert (Oct. 14, 1999), Boca Raton, Fla. – Reached the girls’ singles semifinals at the Grade 1 Copa Barranquilla junior event in Colombia. He is coached by Hafeez Hameed.
Noah Rubin (Feb. 21, 1996), Merrick, N.Y. – Rubin (pictured above) upset world No. 18 Benoit Paire in the first round of the Australian Open, then reached the semifinals of the $50,000 ATP Challenger event in Maui, Hawaii. He is coached by Lawrence Kleger.
Brian Shi (Feb. 24, 2000), Jericho, N.Y. – Reached the boys’ singles semifinals at two Grade 4 junior tournaments in Sweden, the SALK Open and the EuroElite Junior Malmo Open. He is coached by Lawrence Kleger.
Katerina Stewart (July 17, 1997), Miami, Fla. – Reached the singles semifinals at the $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit women’s event in Wesley Chapel, Fla. She is coached by her father, Cesar.
JJ Wolf (Dec. 21, 1998), Cincinnati, Ohio – Won the boys’ singles title at the Grade 1 Coffee Bowl junior tournament in Costa Rica. He is coached by David Kass and his father, Jeff.
