PD-NTC-605x292

USTA Training Center-East is located at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (NTC) in Flushing, N.Y., one of the largest public tennis facilities in the world. Operated by the USTA for the City of New York, the facility opened in 1978 when the USTA moved the US Open from the West Side Tennis Club in nearby Forest Hills. The NTC is a tennis welcome center for the world.

Training Center-East (TCE) opened its doors on Jan. 13, 2010, for high performance tennis players.  Our goal is to work with the American Tennis Family and operate a high level developmental program for juniors working with their primary coaches. Throughout the year we are part of the support structure for American professionals and collegians. We presently offer two types of programming and operate a series of high performance camps for aspiring young players. These programs allow for players who are at various stages of age and development meet their specific needs while training at the center. Players are selected into each program based on results, hard work and the ability to listen to feedback and incorporate suggestions. During training, players will participate in a variety of activities which include but are not limited to drilling, match play, strength & conditioning (fitness) and mental skills.

1.    Day-Time/Transitional Program: allows players who are not attending traditional school train during the day on & off the court (all home schooling must be arranged separately by the interested parties).  All player selections are made by USTA Player Development Head of Men’s & Women’s Tennis.

2.    After School PD Program: introduced on February 11, 2013 and known as the “Feeder Program.” As of July 2016, the Feeder Program will be getting absorbed into the host of programs operated by the NTC and will be organized by NTC staff and coaches.  TCE will continue to manage and afterschool program for high level juniors from 4-7pm which will serve as supplemental training for the athletes.

The NTC will coordinate & host an open summer tryout for specific NTC related programming.  Please check the NTC homepage, USTA Billie Kean King National Tennis Center for additional information regarding the open tryout.

In addition to the two types of programs, TCE plays host to a series of high level developmental camps throughout the year.  These camps are age and level specific, working with USTA Player Development Men’s & Women’s Tennis, Player ID & Development and Coaching Education departments.
