Born in Grantsburg, Wis., Rydberg made his Paralympic Games debut as a 26-year-old in Athens, Greece, in 2004, when he reached the Round of 16 in singles and doubles. He also represented the U.S. at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, as well as in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016.

In 2007, Rydberg, who studied graphic design at the University of Texas in Arlington, swept singles and doubles gold at the Parapan American Games. Four years later, the Wisconsin native successfully defended his doubles gold with Stephen Welch, as the U.S. won five medals, the most of any nation.

Rydberg, a member of the 1997 National Intercollegiate Basketball championship team with UT Austin, has represented the U.S. at the World Cup multiple times, including as a player between 2000-04, 2006-08 and 2010-12.
