Player Development provides American junior, collegiate and young professional players with the opportunities to reach their maximum potential. This mission is facilitated through enhanced coaching education programs, top supplemental coaching in men’s and women’s tennis and junior and collegiate competition and training programs. The Player Development Division is comprised of the following departments: - Coaching Education and Sport Science

COACHING EDUCATION AND SPORT SCIENCE - Organize and conduct the USTA High Performance Coaching Program, consisting of 24 participants for each program.
- Organize and conduct USTA High Performance Coaching Continuing Education Programs, consisting of 18 participants for each program.
- Publish the High-Performance Coaching newsletter on a quarterly basis.
- Produce instructional videos for coaching purposes.
- Work cooperatively with the USPTA and PTR on coaching education related matters.
- Work with the USOC on coaching education and drug testing.
- Gather, disseminate and support the latest research in the sport science disciplines.
- Work with the USTA Sport Science committee.
- Provide research grants.
- Plan and conduct Sport Science Competency Testing.
- Coordinate drug education and testing.
- Provide strength and conditioning support.
ELITE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Facilitates the development of world-class American players. Operates USTA Training Center, Boca Raton and USTA Training Center, CarsonAwards Elite Player Development player grants. Assists the Community Outreach and Multicultural Participation department in selecting the appropriate players to receive multicultural player grants. Works with the USOC on grants and awards. Awards USTA Pro Circuit and other pro tournament wild cards. Participates in wild card determinations at the US Open Championships. Provides customer service to players, parents and coaches for men’s and women’s tennis programs, professional circuits and the ITF circuit. Conducts camps in conjunction with Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties. Coordinates junior international individual and team travel. Conducts training camps for Elite Player Development players. Works with college tennis to help U.S. prospects compete in intercollegiate athletics. Works closely with private coaches and academies of top U.S. prospects. Assists in the selection of players and coaches for Olympic events (i.e., Pan Am Games). Manages the Touring Pro program to help young American players make the transition to the professional level. Organizes and support ITF events in the United States to provide opportunities for American players. Works with the USTA Pro Circuit department to strategically schedule tournaments throughout the year. Provides support to the Professional Tennis Division in relation to Davis Cup, Fed Cup and the Olympics. JUNIOR AND COLLEGIATE COMPETITION - Liaise with designated tennis governing bodies: International Tennis Federation (ITF), United States Olympic Committee (USOC), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Intercollegiate Tennis Association(ITA) on junior and varsity collegiate tennis issues
- Work with the Junior Competition and Collegiate Varsity Committees.
- Provide oversight and direction to players, parents, coaches, and sectional staff on National Junior tennis issues.
- Administer and enforce junior rules and regulations.
- Sanction and schedule all National Junior tournaments.
- Publish and maintain the National Junior Tournament Schedule and National Junior Tournament Calendar.
- Provide and manage content for the USTA Junior Competition Website.
- Maintain the National Junior Rankings database for boys’ and girls’ in the 12-18 age groups.
- Conduct tournament director workshops and provide a tournament director’s manual.
- Support tournament directors in the organization of National Championships and tournament procedures.
- Oversee all ITF Junior Tournaments in the United States.
- Direct major international tennis tournaments in the United States such as the US Open Junior Championships, the Dunlop Orange Bowl and the International Spring Championships.
- Provide structure, oversight and resources for the Competition Training Center Program (1600 players and 300 coaches and administrators).
- Organize and conduct the CTC Coaches Workshop.
- Administer the Sectional Coaches Commission Program and assist with Commission related camps, tournaments and workshops.
- Support major intercollegiate tennis events.
- Partner with the ITA to select the Summer Collegiate Team and other elite collegiate teams
- Oversee the Campus Match Play Program and produce the One-Day Showdown Schedule
- Connect the National Coaching Staff with Collegiate Coaches for elite projects: Pro Tour Transition Camps, Junior National Team Collegiate Tours, etc.
- Provide and manage content for the USTA Varsity Collegiate Website.
- Produce National recruiting lists for college coaches and connect coaches to other recruiting resources.
- Provide a variety of recruiting information for Prospective Student Athletes and college coaches.
- Foster the growth of collegiate tennis opportunities for American juniors..
- Serve as a resource for collegiate coaches on community outreach and advocacy projects.
