U.S. boys win 2012 World Junior Tennis Finals title

The top-seeded U.S. boys’ team won the 2012 World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic, defeating defending champion Korea Republic, 2-0, at the 14-and-under version of Davis Cup. This was the boys’ first World Junior Tennis Finals title since 2008. The event took place August 13-18, with 26 countries competing this year. 
 
The boys’ and girls’ divisions each had 16 nations, which were split into groups of four, with round-robin play used to determine the semifinalists. Both U.S. teams qualified for the World Group Finals by winning the North/Central American & Caribbean Regional Championships in May.
 
The U.S. boys’ team was comprised of Michael Mmoh (Temple Hills, Md.), who went 7-0 in singles and doubles play this week; Francis Tiafoe (College Park, Md.); and William Blumberg (Greenwich, Conn.).
 
The top-seeded U.S. girls’ team finished in seventh place, with the Slovak Republic winning the title.
 
Former U.S. junior international team members include James Blake, Jennifer Capriati, Jim Courier, Michael Chang, Lindsay Davenport, Taylor Dent, Mardy Fish, Robby Ginepri, Ashley Harkleroad, Lisa Raymond, Andy Roddick and Chanda Rubin.
