American doubles specialist Eric Butorac will bring more than a decade of world-class experience to help the USTA enhance player relations and develop the next wave of young U.S. players.
Butorac, who has won 18 doubles titles in his 14-year professional career, will join the USTA in his new role of director of professional tennis operations and player relations in October, following his swansong at the US Open later this month.
The outgoing ATP Player Council president and former world No. 17 doubles player will report to Stacey Allaster, USTA chief executive of professional tennis, and David Brewer, US Open tournament director.
In this newly created role, Butorac, who reached the doubles final at the 2014 Australian Open with South African Raven Klaasen, will be responsible for enhancing player relations across all of the USTA’s professional tennis events, including the US Open. In addition, the 35-year-old (pictured above) will assist player development with doubles coaching and mentoring and will work with the professional tennis operations team on enhancing the USTA Pro Circuit.
“Eric will bring a unique player perspective to our USTA team,” said Allaster. “He is a well-respected professional whose leadership on the ATP Player Council will be a tremendous asset for our organization moving forward.”
A native of Rochester, Minn., Butorac served eight years on the council and succeeded Roger Federer as its president in 2014. He intends to continue playing throughout the summer, culminating at the US Open.
