The USTA announced nine potential future U.S. Davis Cup team members who have been invited to participate in a USTA High Performance Camp for boys age 14-and-under at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Club just outside of Portland, Ore. The camp runs in conjunction with the 2007 Davis Cup Final between the U.S. and Russia which will be played at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum, November 30-December 2.

Players will begin a rigorous training and conditioning program on Wednesday. Over the weekend, the players will train in the morning and spend the afternoon cheering on fellow Americans Andy Roddick, James Blake and Bob and Mike Bryan as they face-off against Russia and attempt to bring the Davis Cup title home to the U.S. for the first time since 1995. The U.S. last hosted the Davis Cup Final in 1992 in Fort Worth, Texas. A 10-year-old Roddick attended that final and said, “it changed the way I viewed tennis.”

“Hosting the first Davis Cup Final in the United States in 15 years provides us with a unique opportunity to bring some of our top juniors to Portland not only to train, but also to witness top players in the world compete,” said Paul Roetert, Managing Director, USTA Player Development. “The last time the U.S. hosted the final had a major impact on Andy and we hope this weekend will do the same for the kids who are part of this training camp.”

USTA National Coaches Roger Smith and David Roditi will lead the camp. The following nine players participating in the camp are:

Sean Berman, Irvine, CA
Carlos Bermudez, Tucson, AZ
Mika DeCoster, Coto de Caza, CA
Jeremy Efferding, Lake Worth, FL
Emmett Egger, Issaquah, WA
Marcos Giron, Thousand Oaks, CA
Spencer Mitchell, Stone Mountain, GA
Spencer Simon, Santa Barbara, CA
Shane Vinsant, Keller, TX

De Coster and Egger led the United States to a third place finish at the World Junior Tennis team championships, the 14-and-under version of Davis Cup, on red clay courts in the Czech Republic in August.
